How to care for a Philodendron 'Golden Diamond'? Detailed guide to growing methods and precautions
1. Growing environment
(1) Temperature: It likes warmth, and around 25°C is best. It is not cold-tolerant and will suffer frost damage below 5°C, so in winter do not leave it indoors, and move it to a warm place such as indoors or a greenhouse.
(2) Light: It likes a semi-shaded environment, but it must not be too dark, otherwise its leaf color will become lighter and the leaves will droop. At the same time, too strong light and long periods of light are also not good.
(3) Watering: It has a high demand for water, especially during the growing season. At this stage, keep the potting soil moist, especially in the high summer temperatures, when it must not lack water. In addition to watering, you can also spray some water appropriately. Note that water must not accumulate, otherwise the roots will rot.
(4) Fertilizing: It has a high demand during the peak growing season, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. However, do not apply too much fertilizer at one time, and do not make the concentration too high. Overall, it is "apply thin fertilizer frequently". Entering autumn and winter, control the amount of fertilizer to help it get through the winter.
(5) Soil: Sandy soil rich in humus, well-draining, and slightly acidic is best. Specifically, it can be prepared with peat and perlite.
2. Pruning
If not pruned for a long time, the plant's leaves are prone to turning yellow. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly prune old leaves and old branches. Too-dense branches can also be cut off to improve its ornamental value.
3. Repotting
Because the Philodendron 'Golden Diamond' grows quickly, it needs to be repotted regularly. Repot once every three to four years, in spring. When repotting, be careful to control fertilizer and water.
