We Chinese have a special fondness for lotus, and living in the city, who wouldn't want to admire lotus in the heat of summer? Actually, you can grow lotus in just a pot with some water, don't doubt it, Huahua will teach you step by step, and if you can't learn it, come find me!

Water lilies and bowl lotus

Home-grown lotus is mainly of two kinds, water lilies and bowl lotus, and they are very easy to tell apart: water lily leaves generally float on the water surface and have a V-shaped notch

Bowl lotus is more like a miniature lotus, tends to stand upright and reach out of the water, with oval leaves

The flowering period of water lilies and bowl lotus is June to September, right in the blazing heat. Just imagine, a touch of clear lotus under the scorching sun, truly refreshing!

How to grow lotus

To be honest, compared with any grass flower or woody flower, lotus is so easy to grow. Huahua will teach you step by step to plant it, and one try will get you hooked!

1. Tell the lotus seeds apart

The lotus seed is actually an old lotus seed; the head of the lotus seed has a small bump, while the tail has no bump

2. Peel off the shell at the head

Use tools like a nail clipper to peel off the hard shell on the head of the lotus seed

Peel it until it looks like the picture below, this way it sprouts faster and more easily!

3. Soak in water to speed up sprouting

Find a small bowl, fill it with clean water, and put it in a cool place (the temperature now is above 20°C)

After about three days you can see green sprouts, and you can't resist picking it up to look, such a sense of achievement

Keep soaking in water, after 5-7 days the sprout breaks out of the shell, and in 10 days it can grow to about 8 cm

During this period you can drip a little nutrient solution into the water to speed up the sprout's growth and development. After about 20 days, when small tender leaves unfold into an oval shape, it's time to prepare for potting

4. Plant out and pot up

Growing lotus is generally half soil and half water; the soil guarantees the lotus's nutritional needs, and the water guarantees the moist environment the lotus needs

Just choose ordinary soil that is fairly sticky, first sun-dry it, then pour boiling water over it to sterilize and disinfect, and let it dry

Put the dried soil in the flower pot, bury the seed, at a depth of about 3-5 cm

If the soil is not sticky enough and easily disperses in water, you can cover the soil surface with a layer of sand; the sand is best also rinsed with boiling water or carbendazim to sterilize

Pour in clean water, the water depth is about 5-7 cm, and cloudiness is normal

After settling for 2-3 hours it will be much better

5. Daily care

Light: lotus loves light, and sufficient light ensures the growing temperature, so no amount of sun is a problem

Water amount: during the seedling stage the water depth is 5-7 cm, to ensure the seedling can breathe; as the lotus grows, gradually increase the water, and for mature plants maintain a depth of 8-12 cm

Fertilizing: compared with other flowers, lotus has low fertilizer requirements; before flowering just add some crushed peanut shells to the soil

Alright~

Isn't growing lotus super simple?

Flower friends, hurry up and start growing it now

Enjoy the lotus in summer~
