How to grow Amaryllis (Hippeastrum)? Detailed guide to growing methods and precautions
1. Soil
To grow amaryllis, use loose, fertile sandy soil. There should be no waterlogging in the soil. You can mix decomposed manure soil, leaf mold and sandy soil.
2. Temperature
It likes a warm environment. In summer the temperature can be somewhat cooler, generally 18-22°C is suitable. In winter, amaryllis is in its dormant period, and its growing environment is best kept cool and dry, with the temperature not lower than 5°C.
3. Light
Amaryllis likes sunlight, so it is best to place it in a ventilated, bright spot with plenty of sunlight. Do not expose it to overly intense summer sunlight for long periods.
4. Watering
When watering amaryllis, water thoroughly, but there must be no waterlogging. Keep the soil slightly moist at all times. If too much water is given, take drainage measures to avoid rot caused by waterlogging.
5. Pruning
Amaryllis grows very fast and its leaves are dense, so promptly cut off withered and diseased leaves; this helps the healthy leaves grow better.
6. Precautions
If you want amaryllis to grow better, do a good job of pest and disease control. You can spray some pesticide once a month. It is best not to spray at noon to avoid pesticide damage; choose the morning or afternoon of a sunny day instead.
