Reasons for Yellowing and Dropping Leaves in Pepperwood (Zanthoxylum beecheyanum) and How to Fix Them
1. Replace the soil
If the soil we give it is not suitable for its growth, its leaves will gradually turn yellow and wither. At this point, what we should do is repot it, using relatively fertile, well-draining sandy soil.
2. Increase light
Light also has a considerable effect on it. If there is not enough light, the problem described above is very likely to occur, so we should give it enough light. If it is kept indoors, it is best to place it in a spot with good light, such as a balcony or near a window, and not in too dark an area. Besides this, we should often move it outdoors, as this will be better for it.
3. Control watering
You cannot water it too much or too little; the humidity it needs is between 50 and 70. If you water it excessively, its roots will rot, and if you water it very little, yellow leaves will also appear. Generally, watering it once every 3 to 5 days is fine, and each time you must water it thoroughly, meaning the bottom should get wet, and the soil should also be relatively permeable.
4. Avoid strong wind
It cannot withstand very strong wind, because its attachment points are very fragile, and if the wind blows, the leaves easily fall off. So when there are strong winds, you should still keep it indoors, so that its leaves are not blown so hard by the wind that they drop.
5. Keep away from radiation
If we often place it next to a computer, the radiation and heat dissipation will cause its leaves to drop, so we should move it away from the computer and place it in a south-facing spot, where both light and ventilation will be better.
