Dendrobium has a very long history of traditional use. The Taoist classic "Daozang" of the Tang Dynasty listed Dendrobium officinale as the foremost of China's nine great immortal herbs, with the effects of benefiting the stomach and promoting fluid production, nourishing yin and clearing heat. In recent years dendrobium has also become quite popular and is very well received. Besides buying it, you can also grow dendrobium at home, and some flowering varieties are especially beautiful, fully on par with orchids such as Phalaenopsis.
For dendrobium, choose a breathable flower pot and place broken tiles at the bottom. You can cover up to the root and stem part with wood shavings or crushed bark; it should not be too deep. Keep it in a spot with bright, indirect light for care, ensure good ventilation, and water according to "dry-wet cycle" (water when dry, stop when wet); never let water accumulate.
Dendrobium fears the cold. Its suitable growing temperature is 10-35°C, and some can tolerate low temperatures of 0°C, but generally overwintering is safer when the temperature does not drop below 5°C.
For ordinary dendrobium, apply fertilizer twice a year in early spring and autumn, about 10 granules of slow-release fertilizer each time. Flowering dendrobium has a large flower volume and needs more fertilizer; you can spray a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer on the leaves about every 10 days, at a diluted concentration, and apply a few granules of slow-release fertilizer in the potting soil each month.
