Clever tricks for controlling the flowering period of bougainvillea: so many blooms you cannot see the branches

The main methods for controlling the flowering period of bougainvillea are: water control, temperature control, and fertilizer control. Ordinary households growing flowers may not have the conditions to manage temperature control, so let me mainly explain the methods of water and fertilizer control. The picture below is a bit messy, because I was too lazy to prune, haha.

Water control means first letting it drink its fill once, then not watering for the next few days (depending on the temperature; when it is hot, three or four days, and when the temperature is low, seven or eight days), waiting until the leaves look dry and wilted, then letting it drink its fill again (giving only plain water), then stopping water again. After doing this several times, the leaves will fall.

Once the leaves have fallen completely, immediately add fertilizer and water, watering every day (water when the surface soil is dry). When the temperature is high, you can water in the morning and evening. This process is OK. If the flower shape is not good, you can prune it and then control again.

Illustrated guide to controlling flowering in bougainvillea:

Normal growth

Watering after one week of water control

Flowers appear after several rounds of water control, but the flower shape is not ideal and the flowers all bloom at the branch tips

After taking photos, cut off the flowering branches and continue water control.

Begin adding water and fertilizer

You can see that this time the branches are covered with flower buds, success

Flower buds continue to increase

The scene of full bloom can already be seen

These pictures of mine are the result of controlling flowering twice, so it took a bit longer. Generally, results come in a little over one month. There is also one most important point: whether during the water control period or the flowering period, sunlight is very important. Bougainvillea is a strongly sun-loving plant. The latest report is that this bougainvillea of mine is now blooming so much that the branches can no longer be seen.

After water control, I used compound fertilizer, the granular kind, putting a little into the flower pot after water control. There is also a foliar fertilizer, a liquid one, which is used when it is not flowering.
