Is your pothos growing thinner and thinner? One trick from my neighbor makes the leaves plump and green and the stems as thick as a finger
Pothos is said to be the easiest plant to grow, but some plant lovers say that the pothos they have kept at home for several years has indeed grown longer and longer, but also thinner and thinner, which looks really ugly. My neighbor's pothos is grown very well. In fact, he used just one trick to make the pothos both plump and green.
Many plant lovers usually just water their pothos, and for a while nothing seems wrong, but after a year or so they find that the pothos is getting worse and worse, with thinner stems and smaller leaves, not attractive at all. In fact, potted plants generally need to be repotted every 1-2 years, especially fast-growing plants like pothos.
1. Repotting time for pothos
For pothos, the best time to repot is in early spring and late autumn, especially in spring, when pothos has finished dormancy and new buds are sprouting, which is a good time to repot. It can be repotted once a year or once every two years.
2. Choosing the pot size
You should choose the pot to repot into according to the actual size, and you should not blindly pursue a large pot. A large pot makes it hard to control the amount of water and fertilizer pothos needs, and instead affects the growth of the pothos. A pot just one size larger is fine. It is more suitable for the crown diameter of the pothos to be 20 cm larger than the pot diameter.
3. How to repot pothos
Stop watering 1-2 days before repotting, so that the pot soil separates from the pot wall;
Remove the old soil, cut off rotten roots, damaged roots and some old roots. If the root system is severely damaged during repotting, it is best to also cut off some leaves;
Put new growing medium into the pot to be used, and plant the plant into it. The planting method is basically the same as potting.
After repotting the pothos, water it thoroughly so that the pot soil absorbs enough water, then place it in a cool place to recover for 2-3 days. At this time, it should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
Because the space in a pot is limited for potted flowers and green plants, if they are not repotted for a long time, it is very easy for the nutrients in the soil in the pot to be used up. The plant cannot absorb nutrients, so naturally it grows thinner and thinner. If you have tried other methods and the pothos still does not grow well, then you can try repotting.
