The familiar spider plant not only has a powerful air-purifying function, but also enjoys the elegant name of "fairy in the air"; hanging it in the living room or on the balcony gives an especially lovely effect. Generally, in a newly renovated 15 sq m indoor space, you can place 2 pots of spider plant on a south- or southeast-facing windowsill to effectively absorb formaldehyde.

The spider plant is a very easy-to-grow green plant, but many gardeners still run into problems like these when growing it: yellowing and curling leaf tips, or brown spots on the leaves. In fact, growing spider plants well is simple; just do the following points well.

1. Purchasing. How should you choose a spider plant? Usually people buy them at the local flower-and-bird market or a flower park, and nowadays online shopping is also very convenient. When choosing a potted spider plant, it is best to pick one with neat growth, evenly hanging plantlets, no messiness, and jade-green, glossy leaves with no damage. The first step is very important; if the spider plant you choose is not good, it will not be easy to grow it well afterwards.

2. Choosing a pot. Many people only pay attention to factors like water, fertilizer and temperature when growing flowers, and 50% of gardeners kill their plants because of pot problems without even knowing it. For spider plants, pots or hanging baskets with a diameter of 15-20 cm are usually more suitable; there are no special requirements for the pot material. Plant 3 plants per pot, and if roots grow out of the bottom of the pot, it is time to repot immediately.

3. Fertilizing: to get a full, bursting pot, you must pay attention to fertilizing. When fertilizing, lift up the leaves to avoid contaminating them, which can easily damage tender leaves and tips; after fertilizing, it is best to spray and rinse the leaf surface with clean water. If the spider plant lacks nutrients, the leaf tips will turn brown, the leaf color will fade, and it may even wither and dry up.

For fertilizer, you can use Huadongde's general-purpose organic nutrient solution, fermented with molasses as the raw material; it looks as dark as "soy sauce" and smells slightly sweet, with not the least pungent odor. Moreover, it is rich in nitrogen, which can promote rooting and prevent yellow leaves. Take 1 ml and mix with 500 ml of water, pour it at the roots, and it can also be used to spray the leaves; just dilute the concentration to about 2000 times. Give the spider plant this "soy sauce" every 10-15 days, and it will grow rapidly within a month; growing it into a cascade is very easy.

4. Watering. The spider plant is a foliage plant, and now that the weather is hot, transpiration in summer is especially stronger, so watering once every 3 days and keeping the potting soil moist is more suitable. Spray water on the leaves every evening, which can effectively reduce yellowing leaves. When watering, add a little fermented rice-washing water, which can make the spider plant's leaves grow wider and send out shoots faster.
