When Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is in bloom, many gardening friends feel happy at first and then distressed. At the beginning, lots of buds grow, and you expect flowers to cover the branches and fill the whole pot, but unexpectedly, before it even blooms, the buds have mostly dropped, and you do not know what to do?

There are many reasons for buds dropping continuously. Generally speaking, when Kalanchoe blossfeldiana enters its flowering period, you need to learn this one trick.

1. Remove buds

When Kalanchoe blossfeldiana enters its flowering period and starts forming buds, the first 2-3 buds or so should be removed first. This helps it form even more buds afterward and encourages it to bloom in clusters, with all of them about the same size.

During bud formation, you also need to observe carefully. If multiple buds grow from the same spot, make appropriate choices and keep just one bud. This way, there will not be a shortage of nutrients causing failure to bloom, or incomplete blooming.

2. Light amount

Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is a short-day plant. It cannot lack light, but it does not need too much either. Too little will cause bud drop, and too much will inhibit flowering. About 8-9 hours of light per day is enough.

3. Temperature control

Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is quite sensitive to temperature. If it is below 5°C, the leaves will turn red, flowering will be delayed, and the buds will all drop. If it is above 24°C, flowering will be inhibited. It is best to keep it around 15°C, so it can keep blooming continuously.

4. Fertilizer amount

The flowering period of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is somewhat long, and the process consumes a lot of nutrients, but you must not over-fertilize, otherwise it will burn the roots and cause the buds to fall off. Use a dilute phosphorus-potassium fertilizer about twice a month. Every 10 days or so, you can spray some diluted phosphorus-potassium liquid fertilizer on the leaves, which helps flowering and extends the flowering period.

That is all for Kalanchoe blossfeldiana. If gardening friends have anything to add, you can share it with everyone in the comments section below. If you want to learn more about growing flowers, you can follow!
