Golden shrimp plant is also known as yellow shrimp flower, coral acanthus, gold-wrapped silver, and golden-bracted shrimp plant. It is an evergreen subshrub of the Acanthaceae family, 30-50 cm tall, with swollen stem nodes and opposite, oblong leaves with prominent veins. It gets its name because the yellow spike-like inflorescence at the top of the stem has layer upon layer of bracts, with small white flowers extending out, shaped like a shrimp. In fact, the golden-yellow petal-like parts are only protective bracts, while the white two-lipped segments growing on the bracts are the true petals. It blooms in spring and autumn, with a peculiar flower shape. Because of its long flowering period and high ornamental value, it quickly became popular among flower growers after being introduced in the 1980s. The golden shrimp plant has a neat clump habit, bright yellow flowers, and a long flowering period. It is suitable for decorating conference venues, halls, rooms, and balconies. In the south, it is used for flower beds.
