As golden arowanas become more common, especially red arowanas, they have gradually become a popular ornamental fish in China, and more and more people are keeping them. The main reason is still the drop in arowana prices. Think back 5 years: comparing red arowanas then with now, the price has dropped by at least 2 times. High profits mean quite a few people will take risks, so the arowana market will become even more mixed and chaotic.

I always feel that arowana keepers, especially beginners, should be cautious when buying an arowana. Because the arowanas in the fish market now are too mixed, it is best to directly get a sub-adult arowana, as the quality is relatively safer. Once you get an arowana, you must be responsible for it. No matter whether its quality is good or bad, you must raise it well with care. In fact, besides color development and body shape, an arowana also has dominance, temperament, spirit and so on, all of which are worth appreciating.

Today I will talk about the dominance of arowanas. Regardless of strain, all arowanas have more or less dominance. It varies with keeping skill and environment, and the expression of dominance is also different. This is certain. Keeping an arowana without dominance is less worthwhile than keeping a koi. When you stand in front of an arowana full of dominance, you will be awed by its poise, calmness and that king-of-the-world presence. This may be the reason you fall in love with it.

Dominance is not necessarily shown only in the arowana's body shape. Do not think that long pectoral fins, a wide enough body and large enough rear 3 fins mean dominance. When it comes to dominance, these alone are far from enough.

It is mainly shown in the arowana's "spirit." In fact, it is easy to see an arowana's dominance; just by looking at its eyes you can tell how dominant this arowana is.

Going deeper, you have to look at the arowana's spirit (mainly determined by happiness and gloom), personality (determined by ferocity and boldness versus gentleness and timidity), and swimming posture (determined by liveliness and elegance versus dullness and sorrow). If an arowana has a happy spirit, a fierce and bold personality, and a lively and elegant swimming posture, then with these 3 major traits it can basically be considered a relatively dominant arowana. Of course, add long pectoral fins, a wide enough body and large enough rear 3 fins, and it is a perfect Tyrannosaurus Rex fish.

How do you cultivate it?

First of all, of course, is selection, but the main thing is keeping skill. A Tyrannosaurus Rex fish needs to be gradually conditioned during keeping. Based on personal experience, there are roughly the following three points.

1. Environment

For single arowana keeping, you must establish the arowana as the protagonist, plus good and stable water quality. If keeping multiple arowanas together, then Xipin Jun dares to be sure that there will not be more than 2 dominant arowanas. Because in any group species, leaders are always very few, and the leader is of course the most dominant Tyrannosaurus Rex. Here is a multiple-choice question: choose the single-kept dominance of ruling the world and being the only one, or the overall momentum of nine dragons in the sky? It depends on your own choice. What Xipin Jun wants to tell you here is how to cultivate the arowana's spirit through environment.

2. Food

As everyone knows, arowanas need many kinds of food. But if you want it to have dominance, you need to feed more lively foods such as frogs, centipedes, geckos, live fish and so on to cultivate the arowana's fierce and bold personality (let the arowana chase and bite small fish swimming quickly, bite highly threatening centipedes, and struggle desperately with frogs and geckos, thereby stimulating its wild nature). This is what I think of as using food to cultivate an arowana's fierce and bold personality. (But juvenile arowanas do not yet have fully formed digestive tracts, so this attempt must be postponed.)

3. Emotion

So-called emotion means giving affection to your beloved arowana. Arowanas are spiritual animals. If you care for and cherish it, it will respect and be friendly to you. (You should interact often to cultivate mutual affection, so that it can maintain a happy mood. Whenever you come over, it will swim back and forth in front of you, wagging its tail like a divine dragon, fully showing its graceful swimming posture.) This is what I think of as using emotion to cultivate an arowana's joyful and graceful swimming posture.
