Rubber plant

The rubber plant (Ficus elastica) is a well-known foliage plant, with large, thick, evergreen leaves that stay green all year round. It also has a unique ability to purify air and dust, absorbing harmful gases from the air, releasing oxygen, and raising the concentration of negative ions in the air. It is an excellent plant for decorating the home, and many flower lovers choose to keep one. The rubber plant is easy to grow and easy to keep alive. Here is how to propagate a whole new rubber plant from just one leaf.

The leaf-cutting propagation method for the rubber plant is as follows:

1. Choose a flower pot with a diameter of about 24-28 cm:Cover the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot with a piece of tile, and fill the pot with fine sand. Alternatively, dig a small rectangular pit 15 cm deep and 15-20 cm in diameter in the open ground and pour sand into it.

2. Disinfection:Evenly pour potassium permanganate solution or boiling water over the sand in the pot or pit. Use 2 g of potassium permanganate per pot, mixed with 3~4 kg of water, for strict disinfection to prevent mold from growing and spreading.

3. Select leaves and insert cuttings:

Choose large, thick leaves from the middle of the plant that are growing vigorously as the cutting material;

When the temperature stays above 15°C, with the best temperature being 18-22%, that is, late April to early and mid-May, is the suitable time for cutting. Insert the cuttings as soon as they are taken, water them thoroughly, and place them in a cool, ventilated place. If planting cuttings in the open ground, set up shade equipment to prevent direct sunlight.

4. Scientific management:

Be careful to keep the potting soil moist at all times to encourage rooting;

After roots form at the end of the leaf stalk, choose a sunny day to transplant, and after planting water with rooting water to settle the seedling;

The rubber plant likes light and warmth, so place the pot in a spot with plenty of light (for open-ground cuttings, remove the shade net) to allow photosynthesis and promote healthy growth;

After transplanting, apply topdressing with decomposed diluted urine water or fermented oil residue water, and also pay attention to watering frequently in midsummer to keep the soil moist and prevent drought;

The rubber plant is a tropical flowering plant and is not cold-resistant when grown in the north. After winter begins, move it indoors promptly to prevent cold damage, and after Qingming of the following year, take it outside or onto the balcony again.

1. The flower language of the rubber plant:

The rubber plant symbolizes steadiness, honesty, trust, everlasting green, and good fortune.

2. The rubber plant can eliminate the smell of smoke:

Research shows that the rubber plant is powerful at removing indoor smoke. It can not only effectively remove smoke particles suspended in the air and purify harmful gases in the air, but also effectively eliminate the special smell of cigarettes. Placing a few rubber plants at home can both absorb smoke and eliminate the smell of smoke, achieving two things at once. Why wouldn't smokers be happy to do it?

3. The ornamental value of the rubber plant:

The rubber plant, green all year round, has thick, fleshy leaves that seem to give off the flavor of sunny beaches, letting you enjoy a tropical atmosphere right at home. Therefore, the rubber plant is a green ornamental bonsai that many tropical plant lovers like to grow at home.
