How to grow a Hoya? Detailed Guide to Care Methods and Precautions
1. Soil
Hoya likes an acidic soil that is airy, fertile and well-draining. Try not to choose heavy clay soil; an airy soil will not cause root rot and is also good for its growth.
2. Watering
When growing a Hoya, it is best for the potting soil to be in a moist state. You can water once a week, and there must never be standing water. In summer, when temperatures are high, make sure there is enough moisture, and you can water a little more; in autumn and winter, when temperatures are lower, it grows relatively slowly, so reduce watering and water once every two weeks.
3. Light
Hoya likes indirect light. In spring and autumn, it is best to place it in a spot facing south. In summer, you can shade it and keep it out of direct sunlight. You also cannot keep it in a shady place for a long time, as it will become less vivid due to insufficient light.
4. Fertilizing
For fertilizer, you can use organic fertilizer or a compound fertilizer, 1-2 times a month during the vigorous growth period, and reduce fertilizing when growth is slower.
5. Precautions
1. Pests and diseases: During the process of growing a Hoya, pests and diseases may appear, which will not only affect its appearance but also affect its normal growth. Common pests and diseases include bad spot disease and leaf spot disease. Once discovered, spray the appropriate pesticide promptly and improve ventilation.
2. Pruning: To better help its growth, pinch back promptly during the growing process to help new shoots and buds sprout better; when the flowers fade, do not cut off the flower stem, because cutting it will affect the number of blooms the following year.
