The results of the Ugly Succulent Contest are in, and the ugliest one is actually this!
Pachypodium brevicaule (Huibixu Xiao)
The first one Huahua has to complain about is Pachypodium brevicaule. When it's not blooming, Pachypodium brevicaule looks completely like a piece of ginger covered in thorns. Its looks really don't deserve any praise!
Even when it produces small yellow flowers, its appearance only improves by a tiny bit! The key thing is that it's just too expensive. A small piece sells for 3000, so a poor person like Huahua can only look at it and nothing more!
Echeveria 'Baron Bold' (Wild Baron)
The moment Huahua sees Echeveria 'Baron Bold', she feels goosebumps all over. Forgive Huahua, she really just can't appreciate its beauty.
But some fellow gardeners told Huahua that they like Echeveria 'Baron Bold' precisely because it has a kind of evil beauty!
Echeveria 'Maiden's Dream' (Yinv Meng)
Speaking of the lumpy one, the succulent that stands alongside Echeveria 'Baron Bold' is Echeveria 'Maiden's Dream'! The lumps on Echeveria 'Maiden's Dream' are like caterpillars lying on the leaves. If it were up to Huahua, she would definitely want to dig all the lumps out!
But for gardeners who love it, it seems the bigger the lumps, the better it proves you've cared for it?
Echeveria 'Red Tsunami' (Hong Nutao)
The moment Huahua sees what Echeveria 'Red Tsunami' looks like, she thinks of the little monsters in movies. Not only does it have lumps on its leaves, but there are also white hairs along the edges. It really looks bizarre and misshapen!
Why is it called that? Huahua wonders, could it be because when the white hairs spread out, it feels like hair standing on end in a rage?
Senecio pendulus (Loach Palm)
Huahua doesn't know why, but whenever she thinks of how slippery and slimy a loach is, she gets a particularly uncomfortable feeling inside. When she sees Senecio pendulus, that uncomfortable feeling gets even stronger...
Look at this sprawling, claw-like appearance. Huahua feels like all the goosebumps on her body are about to fall to the ground!
If it grows a bit longer, it turns into the look of a green snake. That's truly scary enough in the middle of the night!
Dinteranthus (Butterfly Medal)
The first time Huahua heard the name Dinteranthus, she was absolutely filled with anticipation. Such a beautiful name must surely belong to an incredibly beautiful succulent, right? As it turned out...
Can someone tell Huahua what on earth this is? How is it like a butterfly, and how is it like a medal? It's just hideously ugly!
Cristate Mammillaria elongata (Golden Fingers Cristata)
Huahua used to think all cristate succulents were beautiful, until she saw cristate Mammillaria elongata and realized she had been living in vain all these years!
After Mammillaria elongata becomes cristate, doesn't it look like it's completely covered in bugs? It feels like her trypophobia is about to flare up!
That's all Huahua has for today!
What other rather ugly succulents have you fellow gardeners seen?
Hurry up and tell Huahua in the comments!
