Temperature and light: normally 13-18°C, 4-10°C in winter, with plenty of sunlight, preferably 12 hours or more per day. Timely pruning: prepare a support, and when it grows to 7 leaves, pinch off the growing tip.

1. Soil

To grow petunias, choose loose, well-draining sandy loam, because they are rather afraid of water, so drainage must be good to avoid root rot.

2. Watering

Water moderately at ordinary times; do not water too much or too little. Generally, when summer temperatures are high, keep the soil sufficiently moist and water promptly, but make sure there is no standing water in the pot. In rainy periods, take good drainage measures to avoid waterlogging that causes root rot; if there is too much rain during the flowering period, the flower color will become dull.

3. Temperature and light

The suitable growth temperature for petunias is 13-18°C; in winter, keep the temperature at 4-10°C. If the temperature is too low, they will stop growing. Whether planted in the ground or in pots, they must have plenty of sunlight; if sunlight is insufficient, flowering will decrease and flower quality will be poor. It is best to give them 12 hours of light per day.

4. Timely pruning

It is a vine plant, so it is best to prepare a support; you can insert a stick into the flower pot so it can twine and grow. It also needs proper pruning: when it has grown to about 7 leaves, pinch off the growing tip, which can make it bloom more and larger.

5. Points to note

Petunias are very prone to aphids. After discovering them, do not spray with fenvalerate, so as to avoid phytotoxicity that hinders their normal growth.
