Chilies are a very useful food to serve with meals and rice. Get hands-on and grow a few pots of chilies yourself: they serve an ornamental purpose and also save you the money you would spend buying chilies. Why not give it a try?

How do you grow them?

1. Wearing gloves, cut open fresh chilies and take out the chili seeds inside

2. Wash the chili seeds and dry them in the sun.

3. Place the dried chili seeds flat on the potting soil, then cover with a thin layer of soil and water moderately.

4. Wait for the chili seeds to sprout; when they have 4 or 5 leaves, select the seedlings with the best growth and care for them carefully.

5. Once the seedlings have grown strong, they can be transplanted. But note that they cannot be placed directly in the sun; first place them in a shady spot, and after two days put them out there.

How do you get a bigger harvest?

1. Apply base fertilizer. Well-rotted pigeon manure, chicken manure, leaf mold and so on are all good base fertilizers.

2. Pinch the top. When the chilies have grown to about 15-20 cm, remove the growing tip so the side branches develop; when the side branches reach about 10 cm, pinch the tops again to increase the yield.

3. Fertilize often, adding fertilizer about once a week.

4. Maintain sufficient light duration and light intensity
