Grow this fruit tree in a pot on your balcony, and it will bear 100 fruits, bending the branches with their weight

The flowers Huahua has been growing recently have all finished blooming, leaving a sense of emptiness. Actually, it would be better to grow a small tree - easy to care for, able to bloom and bear fruit, much more interesting than ones that only bloom! I really want to plant one now - enjoy flowers in summer, harvest fruit in autumn, wouldn't that be delightful~

Lemon Tree

Huahua often drinks lemon water, one cup a day keeps the digestion smooth, and I've heard it also has beauty and skincare benefits. The market price of lemons isn't cheap either. After much thought, it's better to just grow a lemon tree yourself!

1. Pot Selection

Many gardening friends ask, can you grow lemons in the north? Huahua can tell you for certain - as a commercial crop it's impossible, but as a potted plant, bearing a few fruits, absolutely doable!

Lemons can indeed be grown from seed, but after sowing them yourself, they can only be kept as leafy potted plants - they won't grow large, let alone bloom and bear fruit. There are also many lemon seedlings for sale on the market. Let Huahua help you pick some.

Lemon seedlings generally bear fruit after 3 years, so buy seedlings that are 3 years or older

New potted plants all have an adjustment period. If you buy one during its blooming period, problems after bringing it home can easily lead to disappointment. So either buy a lemon that hasn't bloomed yet, or buy one that has already fruited

2. Acclimatization

Newly purchased lemons may show yellowing and leaf drop due to changes in temperature and humidity. Don't panic - this is normal

Place the lemon in a cool, well-ventilated spot at home. Don't water it for now. After about 5-7 days, as long as the main trunk is still alive, you can move it to a sunny spot and water normally

If the situation hasn't improved by then, you can water with some nutrient solution - mix 5ml of nutrient solution with 1000ml of water, apply once every half month

3. Care Methods:

Once the lemon sapling survives, everything else is easy. The care methods are simple and easy to follow

Soil: Place broken tile pieces at the bottom of the pot, then add fertilizer soil, garden soil, and clay pebbles

Water: Water every 2-3 days

Light: Loves sunlight, ensure at least 6 hours of light per day

Fruiting period: Blooms three times a year, bears fruit in spring and summer

Blueberry

Sweet and tangy blueberries are not only delicious eaten fresh, but can also be made into dried blueberries - loved by young and old alike. Hurry and start growing them~

1. Pot Selection

As long as you choose the right variety, gardening friends from any region - east, west, north, or south - can successfully grow blueberries and enjoy homegrown blueberries. You can refer to the map below:

Northern gardeners should choose northern highbush blueberries, southern gardeners should choose southern highbush blueberries. In the southernmost regions like Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Taiwan, China, and other areas, the temperature is too high and blueberries can't develop their white bloom, so they're not very suitable for growing blueberries

2. Care Methods:

Once you've chosen a suitable blueberry variety, you can confidently start growing them

Soil: Mix nutrient soil and leaf mold with garden soil. For alkaline soil, add 5g of sulfurous acid to neutralize

Water: Loves acidic conditions, water with acidic water once a month (vinegar water or citric acid water diluted 500 times)

Light: Prefers shade, suitable for indoor or north-facing balcony growing

Chilling hours: Blueberries need temperatures below 7°C in winter to ensure blooming and fruiting the following year

Goji Berry

Huahua now adds goji berries to tea, but goji berries on the market generally have added coloring and artificial sweeteners, which feels unreliable. We can also grow goji berries ourselves!

1. North-South Differences

Goji berries are cold-hardy, so they can be grown in both north and south. However, there are differences between northern and southern cultivation - in the north they can bear fruit, while in the south fruiting is poor, but the leaves are edible and have the same health benefits!

2. Care Methods:

Soil: Mix nutrient soil and sandy soil with regular garden soil, add base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot

Water: Water every 2-3 days in spring and autumn; during summer and winter dormancy, control watering

Light: Loves sunlight, full sun in spring, autumn, and winter; shade in summer during high temperatures

Note: Pruning and branch trimming can be done around the Spring Festival

Kumquat Tree

Gardening friends may have bought kumquat trees during the New Year. At that time, the kumquat trees are all greenhouse-grown New Year flowers, very hard to keep alive. Better to grow them now - you can enjoy kumquats by late summer!

1. Pot Selection

Similar to lemons - although you can't grow them into large trees in the north, potted fruiting is still possible. So don't be discouraged - if you want to grow them, just do it

2. Care Methods:

Soil: Mix leaf mold and sandy soil with garden soil

Water: Water daily in spring, water morning and evening in summer, start controlling water in autumn and winter

Light: Loves sunlight, slightly shade-tolerant

Fertilizing: Can add bean cake fertilizer or eggshell fertilizer
