An Introduction to the Variety Characteristics of the Succulent Plant Aeonium tabuliforme

Aeonium tabuliforme, also known as flat-topped aeonium, is a succulent plant in the family Crassulaceae, genus Aeonium. The plant is low-growing, with a rosette leaf disc made up of 100 to 200 fleshy leaves, and its maximum diameter can reach 50 cm. The leaves are sessile, spoon-shaped, and range in color from grass green to grayish green or dark green, with white fine hairs along the leaf margins; the leaves all grow radiating horizontally from the center outward, making the entire leaf disc as flat and even as a mirror, without the slightest gap; because the leaf margins are slightly darker in color and bear white fine hairs, and at the same time the outer ring of leaves is large while the inner ring is small, the mirror-like leaf disc looks like an exquisitely beautiful geometric pattern, very peculiar. When it blooms, the leaves at the center of the leaf disc gradually separate from the disc and become alternate in arrangement, while a cylindrical flower stalk emerges from the middle, finally developing into a huge terminal panicle 60 cm tall, with small yellow flowers; after flowering it sets seed, and then the entire plant dies. It is distributed in the Atlantic Canary Islands.

Care and management:
Watering should follow the principle of "do not water until dry, and when you water, water thoroughly," avoiding water accumulation in the pot soil, otherwise it will cause root rot; apply once every half month or so a fully rotted dilute liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer. The pot soil should be fertile, loose, and well-drained sandy soil, which can be mixed from leaf mold, garden soil, river sand, etc., and a small amount of calcium-rich materials such as bone meal can also be mixed in.
Aeonium tabuliforme
The main growing seasons are spring and autumn. During the growing season, give it plenty of light. If the light is insufficient, the plant will become leggy, the plant shape will be messy, the leaf spacing will be relatively large, and the leaf rosette will not be disc-shaped, seriously affecting its ornamental value. In winter, place it indoors in a sunny spot, with a nighttime minimum temperature of around 10°C and a certain day-night temperature difference; the plant can continue to grow, and can be watered and fertilized normally; if such a high temperature cannot be maintained, control watering and keep the pot soil dry so the plant goes dormant, and it can also tolerate a low temperature of 5°C. When the temperature is high in summer, the plant grows slowly or stops completely, so it is advisable to place it in a ventilated, cool place for care; avoid exposure to the scorching sun, do not water too much, and even more do not let it be rained on for a long time, so as to avoid plant rot caused by muggy, humid conditions and water accumulation in the soil; also do not fertilize, and wait until the autumn turns cool before resuming normal water and fertilizer management.

Value:
Aeonium tabuliforme has a peculiar plant shape, and its rosette leaf disc is as flat and even as a mirror, with exquisite patterns on it, very beautiful; the fasciated form of Aeonium tabuliforme is twisted and full of variety, and especially plants cultivated for many years look like rolling mountain peaks, quite unique. It is suitable as a small potted plant, adorning desks, stands, windowsills, and other places, delicate and beautiful, with a unique effect.
