In an environment where industrialization produces dust and damages the ecology, creating smog, water pollution and other harsh conditions, new protective items such as smog masks have also appeared. This is especially true for workers in outdoor and industrial workplaces, because the labor intensity is high and both breathing depth and frequency are elevated, making it easy to inhale more particulate dust, dust mites, hair, bacteria and viruses, etc., which enter the human respiratory tract and, over time, can easily trigger diseases such as pneumoconiosis.

Dust-proof safety helmet

For industrial dust, dust-proof safety helmets, air-supply helmets, air-supply masks and other dust-proof protective gear have long been available, so protective equipment must always be worn in accordance with regulatory requirements. In addition, before starting work, a physical examination is also conducted; if a person already has atrophic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, active pulmonary tuberculosis, nasal cavity tumors, bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis or other diseases, they must not engage in dusty work.

If severe diffuse pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema, pleural thickening and adhesions, or cardiovascular system diseases are already present, even more active steps should be taken to guard against dust and various other triggers of pneumoconiosis. As for protective measures for the factory environment as a whole, dust suppression and elimination work such as sealing, dust removal, ventilation and water spraying should be carried out. If conditions permit, wet-process workplaces should be created, such as wet-process mining in mines and spray watering during underground transport.

Smog mask

For the general public, steps should also be taken now to avoid direct or indirect smoking, guard against dust and dust mites, keep fewer pets, and regularly wear masks and other protective items. If one can leave smoggy and dusty environments and workplaces, that is the best protective method. Regular examinations are also a prerequisite for promptly understanding the condition of the lungs and adopting corresponding prevention and treatment measures.
