Succulents are truly wonderful. As long as they are cared for properly, given plenty of sunlight and a suitable temperature difference between day and night, their leaves will turn yellow, red or orange, making them look even better than some flowering plants. They store water in their juicy leaves, so they can still grow well even if you occasionally forget to water them.

Succulents are all very afraid of overwatering. Too much water easily causes root rot and leaf rot. When watering, do not pour water directly on the leaves. Keep the growing environment ventilated with plenty of light, provide appropriate shade in summer, and just avoid freezing in winter.

9 succulents with vivid colors:

1. Firesticks (Euphorbia tirucalli)

Firesticks is a succulent with clustered branches and vertical stems. It has almost no leaves; even the small leaves visible at the top will later become branches of the Firesticks. Its fiery red stems look a bit like coral on a seabed reef.

The tips of Firesticks turn yellow in summer and red in winter. It likes plenty of light and a warm, slightly dry environment.

Note: The sap of Firesticks is toxic, so avoid direct contact with the skin.

2. Colorful Crayon (Crassula 'Colorful Crayon')

Many people think Colorful Crayon looks the same as 'Mihara Star' (Crassula 'Mihara Star'). 'Mihara Star' cannot develop variegation, while the leaves of Colorful Crayon can turn red. Its geometrically stacked leaves are used for sun protection. When sunlight is plentiful, they turn rose red, and in winter it also produces beautiful small white flowers at the tips of the leaves.

3. Aloe 'Dongfang Zhenzhu' (Aloe nobilis)

Many people grow Aloe nobilis indoors, so its leaves naturally stay green for a long time. But when Aloe nobilis is grown in a sunny position with plenty of heat, its leaves turn red. If moved back to a shaded spot, the leaves turn green again.

I like to grow Aloe nobilis outdoors in a sunny spot and avoid frequent watering, so its leaves can turn red-orange and it can also produce beautiful flowers.

4. Purple Peony (Sempervivum 'Purple Beauty')

Sempervivum 'Purple Beauty' is a very easy-to-grow succulent belonging to the genus Sempervivum. It has strong drought tolerance and cold tolerance. During care, avoid frequent watering, give fairly plenty of light, and avoid keeping it in an enclosed environment.

In an environment with plenty of sunlight and a certain temperature difference, the leaves turn an enchanting red while the center of the rosette remains green, like a charming lotus.

5. Kalanchoe thyrsiflora 'Tang Yin Jin'

Kalanchoe thyrsiflora 'Tang Yin Jin' is a succulent with very large leaves. The leaves are flat and round, reminding me of delicious pancakes. When sunlight is plentiful and the temperature difference between day and night is large, they can turn red. First the tips of the leaves turn red, then it spreads across the whole leaf, looking truly amazing. In winter and spring it can also produce pale yellow flowers.

6. Echeveria 'Morning Light'

Echeveria 'Morning Light' is a succulent of the genus Echeveria. Its growth rate is relatively faster than other succulents. When the temperature difference is large, its leaves turn an enchanting pink, and the wavy edges of the leaves become more obvious. This succulent also has no obvious dormancy in summer, which is quite nice.

Echeveria 'Morning Light' is still fairly large in form and is a very easy-to-grow succulent. For care, give it soil rich in humus that is loose and well-draining, and provide as much light as possible, and it will grow into a lotus-like shape.

7. Echeveria 'Ice and Fire'

Echeveria 'Ice and Fire' looks a bit like Echeveria 'Steel' (Echeveria 'Steel'), with wavy leaves and red leaf edges, forming an enchanting lotus-like shape that looks very charming. If viewed against the light, the leaves look somewhat semi-transparent, and the red edges also have a neon-like glow.

8. Golden Jade (Crassula ovata 'Hummel's Sunset')

In particularly cool seasons, give Golden Jade as much light as possible and control water appropriately, and its leaves will turn golden yellow with red edges. In late autumn and winter, Golden Jade can also produce white flowers tinged with light purple, which is also very charming.

Caring for Golden Jade is similar to caring for Jade Plant (Crassula ovata). It likes a warm, slightly dry environment year-round, does not need frequent watering, and likes plenty of light.

9. Graptosedum 'Bronze' (Mingyue)

Usually, the Mingyue that hobbyists grow themselves is generally green. If overwatered or lacking sunlight, its leaves stay green. If given as much light as possible and cool temperatures, its leaves turn golden yellow in summer, and around January to April it can also produce pure white small flowers.

Cultivating these succulents all requires giving them well-draining, loose and breathable soil. The growing position should have good ventilation, and avoid keeping them in an enclosed space. In summer, provide appropriate shade; in other seasons, give as much light as possible.
