A few days ago I talked about spring care for hydrangeas, so here I'll give a more systematic explanation of hydrangea care, and also add something many flower lovers care about, namely hydrangea color adjustment. How do you get the color you want? Here I'll take the most common Endless Summer as an example and tell you how to do it.

1. Light, temperature

Hydrangeas are short-day plants and like warm, humid, and semi-shaded environments. In spring and autumn, place them in a semi-shaded environment; in the hot summer, place them in a cool, ventilated place; in the cold winter, they can be moved indoors or given insulation treatment outdoors. The suitable growing temperature is 18-28°C, and in winter it should not be lower than 5°C.

2. Soil

Hydrangeas like sandy soil rich in humus that is loose and breathable, such as commonly used humus soil and peat soil, with some river sand and other media added to enhance breathability. The pH determines the flower color, which will be discussed later.

3. Watering

Because hydrangea leaves are relatively large and transpiration during the day is high, water must be given generously to keep the soil moist. In midsummer, water once in the morning and once in the evening, and you can also appropriately spray water on the leaves to reduce the transpiration rate. In winter, control water appropriately, watering when dry and letting it dry out between waterings, and during dormancy just keep the soil semi-dry. In all four seasons, do not water too much. All flowers and plants are the same; too much water easily causes root rot.

4. Fertilizing

Only when nutrition is sufficient can the flowers grow well. During the growing period, apply cake fertilizer once every half month, and in between you can also appropriately apply a thin liquid fertilizer. In autumn, you can add slow-release fertilizer to the potting soil (such as Osmocote, Miracle-Gro, and Magamp).

5. Color adjustment

Producing the color you like is probably what everyone cares about most. Most flower lovers hope for blue hydrangeas. Alkaline soil produces pink flowers, and acidic soil produces blue-purple flowers.Beforethe flower buds form, use aluminum sulfate fertilizer to drench the roots once every 10 days, and appropriately apply ferrous sulfate or white vinegar water to keep the soil acidic, which can produce blue-purple flowers; if the soil used for growing them was originally alkaline, no color adjustment is needed, and the flowers will be pink when they bloom. If it is acidic, apply alkaline fertilizer, such as plant ash.
