Today's star

Pothos, spider plant, anthurium and the like are probably the most common potted plants of all. Easy to grow they certainly are, but their ornamental value leaves something to be desired. The flower introduced today is named "Bella", a perennial twining shrub of the genus Hoya in the family Apocynaceae, native to Southeast Asia, also found in southern China, and a newly emerging indoor ornamental plant.

Bella

Bella is a shrub-type hoya, with opposite leaves arranged neatly, evergreen all year round and glossy; the inflorescence extends from the tip or from between the leaf axils, in the shape of a cyme, star-shaped, with a rose-red center and pure white petals, crystal clear, as if finely carved jade, extremely ornamental, and looking at it makes you want to take a bite.

Flowers like finely carved jade

Bella's flowering period is extremely long. Grown indoors, it generally blooms in all three seasons of spring, summer and autumn, and if there is plenty of light in winter, it will bloom then too, opening several stalks at once, with a mass of small white flowers blooming simultaneously, giving a strong visual impact; not only are the flowers beautiful, Bella also gives off a charming fruity fragrance that lifts the spirits (the nectar and scent are non-toxic).

Very easy to grow

Bella was originally a kind of wild grass living in southern China, with strong vitality and adaptability, fond of warm, well-lit growing conditions, and apart from not tolerating cold, it has no other weaknesses. In northern China it must be moved indoors for the winter, while in southern China it can be grown outdoors; day-to-day care is very easy, and it will survive just by being dropped into soil, even easier to grow than pothos and spider plant.

Worth having

Beautiful and fragrant, blooming continuously through the four seasons, and easy to care for, Bella really is a potted flower well worth getting. Its flower shape is unusual and its ornamental value is high, its leaves stay evergreen all year round, so you can enjoy both flowers and foliage, and it can serve as a green plant to add a touch of spring to a room; when it blooms, the whole room is fragrant, making it better value than pothos and spider plant, and well worth getting.
