Snake plant (Sansevieria) is one of the most common foliage plants in homes, with a compact form, upright leaves, and evergreen foliage throughout the four seasons, giving it high ornamental value. However, during cultivation, leaves often curl, which is really distressing. So I have just summarized some causes of leaf curling, and will introduce them in detail below, hoping to help everyone.

Watering

Snake plant is naturally fairly drought-tolerant, but if it is not watered for a long time, the leaves cannot take up water, so they will become soft and bend. Therefore, when watering it, be sure to follow the principle of "do not water until dry, and water thoroughly when you do." When you see the soil color become lighter, water the snake plant thoroughly.

Light

Snake plant is fairly shade-tolerant by nature, so it does not like direct strong light; otherwise, the leaves will be scorched, gradually wilt, and bend. Therefore, when growing snake plant, in winter you can place it in a spot with more light, and at other times you can place it in a spot with bright indirect light.

Soil compaction

If the soil given to the snake plant is not loose and breathable enough, it is very easy for the soil to become compacted. After the soil becomes compacted, the snake plant's root system cannot absorb nutrients well, and the leaves are very likely to bend. So when first growing snake plant, you can place tiles or something similar at the bottom of the pot to increase air permeability. For the potting soil, you can use leaf mold and coarse river sand in a 1:1 ratio.
