Today we talk about a national third-class protected vulnerable species with a very interesting name and alternative names, called Trillium, also known as: one pearl on top of the head, earth pearl, taro seven. Although the name sounds like it can extend one's lifespan, it actually has no such connection at all. Trillium cannot extend life or increase longevity; it was simply named Trillium by pharmacologists.

Trillium is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Liliaceae family, with high ornamental value. However, due to excessive forest logging, the growing environment of Trillium has been destroyed, and because its rhizome can be used as medicine, excessive digging and the low seed germination rate have caused them to gradually decrease, becoming a vulnerable species. Trillium has scientific significance for studying the systematic position of the genus Trillium and the flora, so we hope everyone will protect the environment and protect more plants like Trillium.

Although Trillium does not have the ability to extend life, its fruit (heaven pearl) and rhizome (earth pearl) have effects such as calming the mind, promoting blood circulation and stopping bleeding, reducing swelling and detoxifying. It also has the effects of removing rheumatism, lowering blood pressure, hemolysis and pain relief, and is mainly used to treat dizziness, insomnia, high blood pressure, neurasthenia, bruises and injuries.

There are also several legends about Trillium. It is said that during the period of the Three Kingdoms of Wei, Shu and Wu, each of the three kingdoms had a couple who loved each other very much and lived happily. But because of war, their husbands all died fighting at the front, leaving the three widows behind.

They were overcome with grief, but still had to live, so to escape the chaos of war, they all chose to live in seclusion, and each took a handful of yellow earth from in front of her husband's grave as a keepsake. The three widows met in Shennongjia and each told of her sufferings. Because their fates were the same, they decided to become sworn sisters.

The three gathered the yellow earth they had brought into a mound, and prayed to heaven every day. Finally they moved the wind god and the rain god. The wind god blew a gentle breeze, and the rain god granted fine rain, and a "three-leaf grass" grew from the mound of yellow earth. The widows were so moved that tears fell from their eyes and landed on the leaves, and the teardrops condensed into a red pearl at the top of the leaves. Thus Trillium got the name one pearl on top of the head.
