The rose is probably a flower pot plant that many people love. It is called the queen of flowers, with thousands upon thousands of varieties, dazzling and varied colors, and elegant and noble flower shapes. It is also the first choice for indoor pot plants!

Friends who love growing roses surely also love propagating them. Many flower growers report that roses are hard to propagate, and even after they root, the survival rate is still very low. That is because you have not chosen the right method. Do it this way and 9 out of 10 cuttings will take, with a survival rate as high as 90%. Propagate a whole batch at once and fill the balcony. It is not too late to learn this now!

Using vermiculite to propagate roses by cuttings not only makes rooting easy, but after repotting the survival rate is also very high, reaching over 90%. If you do not believe it, let us take a look together!

For choosing the vermiculite grade, you can use 3~6 mm vermiculite, which gives a high survival rate.

For choosing the branches, you can choose one-year-old branches, which are suitable for cuttings in winter; you can also choose green branches, which can be propagated by cuttings from May to October. In the current season, choose green branches.

Take healthy rose branches, cut them into 10 cm lengths, keep 2 to 3 leaves at the top, cut the bottom into a slanted cut, insert them into a transparent plastic cup filled with vermiculite, place the plastic cups on a tray with their backs facing outward, and make sure there is water in the tray. With just these very simple steps, the cuttings are done!

Why is the survival rate high when using vermiculite for propagation by cuttings? Because vermiculite can provide the water and nutrients plants need for a long time, and in the early stage of plant growth, by obtaining enough water and minerals, it allows the branches to root faster (they can root in about seven days).

In addition, when repotting, it is recommended to wait until the roots have grown to 5 to 8 cm, as this gives an even higher survival rate!

Flowers that can be propagated by cuttings with vermiculite are not limited to roses. For example, geraniums, gardenias, camellias and so on can all use vermiculite, and the survival rate is extremely high!

If you do not want to use only vermiculite, you can also add 1 part perlite to it. The effect is also quite good, but the survival rate is slightly lower than using only vermiculite!

That is all for today's sharing!

Have we learned it?
