What to Do When Balsam (Impatiens balsamina) Leaves Turn Yellow? Find the Cause and Treat It Accordingly

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are many reasons balsam leaves turn yellow: if it is caused by overwatering, reduce watering appropriately; if it is often exposed to scorching sun, provide shade for it; if it is caused by insufficient light, increase light in time; if it is caused by a lack of nutrients, fertilize promptly to add nutrients; if it has been in a poorly ventilated spot for a long time, move it to a well-ventilated location.

1. Reduce Watering

Cause: If too much water is given, yellow leaves will appear.

Solution: First, loosen the soil appropriately, cut off the leaves that have already turned yellow, and leave it in the sun for a while. Most importantly, reduce watering in normal care, and just water when the soil has dried out completely. Do not let water accumulate in the pot.

2. Appropriate Light

Cause: Although balsam likes sunlight, it cannot be exposed to scorching sun for long periods, nor can it stay in a shady place for long periods. It needs sufficient but appropriate light, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow.

Solution: In summer, when the sunlight is strong, move it to a spot with diffused light; in winter, it can be placed directly on a sunny balcony.

3. Supplement Nutrients

Cause: If its leaves are very plump and only slightly yellow, it may be due to a lack of nutrients.

Solution: Fertilize at the appropriate times to replenish the nutrients it needs in time. Do not wait until the leaves turn yellow every time before fertilizing; fertilize regularly.

4. Ventilate in Time

Cause: Although it can tolerate a windless environment for a short time, it cannot always be kept in a room without ventilation, as this easily causes the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: The room should be ventilated appropriately, and it should not be kept in a stuffy room for long periods. Alternatively, it can be placed directly on a balcony for care.
