Reasons Why Monstera Deliciosa Leaves Turn Yellow and How to Fix It

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are many reasons why Monstera deliciosa leaves turn yellow: if it is caused by unsuitable soil, then the soil should be replaced promptly; if it is caused by improper watering, then the amount of water should be appropriately increased or decreased; if it is caused by light that is too strong or too weak, then appropriate shading or indirect light should be provided; if the temperature is too low, then appropriate measures should be taken to keep it warm.

1. Replace the Soil

Cause: Monstera deliciosa has fairly well-developed fleshy roots, so it has high requirements for soil aeration. Relatively heavy, sticky soil will affect its breathing, which in turn causes its leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: Replace it with suitable soil. You can mix 2 parts mature loess, 1 part honeycomb coal ash, and 1 part chicken manure into a mixed soil. This kind of soil has good aeration and can help it grow better.

2. Water Scientifically

Cause: Monstera deliciosa should not be watered too much or too little. Both extreme watering methods will cause the leaves to turn yellow, and too much water can also cause root rot.

Solution: Water regularly and in the right amount. It is best to sprinkle water when the soil surface is dry, as this can increase the humidity in the air.

3. Provide an Appropriate Amount of Light

Cause: Light that is too strong or too weak will cause the leaves to turn yellow. If it is kept in a shady environment for a long time, the leaves will turn yellow because photosynthesis is affected. Of course, it also cannot be placed in a place with too strong light, as this can easily scorch the leaves and cause yellowing.

Solution: When the sunlight is strong, provide appropriate shading, or let it receive indirect light.

4. Protect It from the Cold and Keep It Warm

Cause: The most suitable growing temperature for Monstera deliciosa is 20-25°C. During the growing period, the lowest temperature should not be lower than 10°C, and mature plants should not be kept below 5°C. If the temperature is too low, it will suffer cold damage and the leaves will turn yellow.

Solution: When the temperature is too low, appropriate measures can be taken to keep it warm. Be careful not to place it directly in the path of air conditioning or next to a heater.
