The flower language of the trailing phlox is passionate longing and deep devotion.

Trailing phlox, also known as throatwort and throat-healing herb, is native to the Mediterranean region and is a perennial herbaceous plant in the genus Trachelium, family Campanulaceae. It is an upright perennial herb, but is often grown as an annual; its base often becomes woody, about 30-120cm tall, and the flowering plant is about 60-90cm tall.
Leaves are alternate, simple, ovate to elliptic, with serrated margins. It blooms from spring to early summer, with terminal flowers; the tubular flowers are numerous, arranged in corymbs; the flowers are small and abundant, with corollas ranging from white to light blue-purple. A distinguishing feature of this species is that its pistil is longer than the corolla and often protrudes. It is native to the Mediterranean regions of Algeria, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Sicily, among other places.

Cultivation tips:
Growing 3 plants together in the same 15cm pot or a large container gives the best ornamental effect. Apply 100-200ppm of a 20-10-20 compound fertilizer weekly. Cultivate the 'Devotion' series under long-day conditions with ample sunlight. Its plant habit is the most compact. Extending the day length can inhibit plant height; 3 weeks after transplanting, illuminate the plants with incandescent lamps so that the daily light period reaches more than 16 hours. During this period, apply a 5000ppm B-9 solution, with a second application 10-14 days later.
After applying the B-9 solution, slight burning may appear on leaf margins, and new leaves will quickly replace the damaged leaves. Another commonly used treatment method is pinching followed by applying B-9. Place 3 plants together in a 15cm pot or a larger container. Three weeks after transplanting, pinch off the 3rd node, apply a 5000ppm B-9 solution 27 days later, and apply a second time 7 days after that. Using the second method, the harvest period is 7-14 days later than with the first method.
