The Radermachera sinica (China doll) carries an auspicious meaning, has a beautiful plant shape, and is full of vitality and energy, delighting the eye. Let's take a look at how to care for the Radermachera sinica!
How do you grow a Radermachera sinica?
(1). Soil
The Radermachera sinica likes loose, breathable, well-draining potting soil rich in nutrients. During the growing period, loosen the soil once a month to keep the roots well aerated. Repot once a year in early April.
Generally use garden soil: decomposed organic fertilizer: leaf mold: river sand in a ratio of 5:1:3:1 mixed together. To prevent the soil from compacting, add perlite or vermiculite.
(2). Fertilizing
Keep the base fertilizer sufficient, and add a compound fertilizer when repotting. In the peak growing season, apply decomposed cake fertilizer water once every 1 month. Fertilize regularly as a top dressing, watering with a mix of 0.1% monopotassium phosphate and 0.2% urea. In late autumn, apply a phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once as a top dressing to ensure it survives the winter.
(3). Watering
The Radermachera sinica likes moisture, and during the growing period it should be kept in a moist state. In spring its growth vigor is strong, so water needs to be controlled to avoid leggy branches; water once every 2~3 days. In winter, water must be controlled, watering once every 7~8 days. Keep air humidity at 70~80%, and frequently spray the plant with clean water to keep the leaves fresh and neat. In winter, reduce the frequency of spraying and keep the substrate on the drier side.
(4). Temperature
The growing temperature for the Radermachera sinica is 20~30°C. Above 30°C, place it in a cool, ventilated spot and frequently spray the leaves with water. At around 10°C, move it indoors promptly. In winter, low temperatures require good frost protection measures.
(5). Light
The Radermachera sinica likes light and is also slightly shade-tolerant. Seedlings of the Radermachera sinica are relatively shade-tolerant, so shade them appropriately. Mature plants need plenty of light, combined with indirect light. If it does not receive light for a long time, the leaves will turn yellow and drop.
