Everyone who grows plants wants to see their plants thrive and look full of energy. No one wants to see their plants covered in pests, sick, wilted and listless. But plants getting pests is also a common thing, so how do you prevent and control it? Today I will teach you a few tricks that are absolutely simple and easy to use!

1. Red spider mites

Red spider mites are about 1 mm in size, with a red or dark red body and an oval shape. They mainly harm the leaves, stems and flowers of plants, piercing and sucking the stems and leaves. The affected parts lose water, the leaves lose their green color and turn white, curl and yellow, and in severe cases the leaves yellow, fall off, and the plant may even die.

Prevention and treatment:

Usually pay attention to the growth state of the plant. If you find pests or curled leaves, remove them promptly to avoid more reproduction and damage.

If pests appear, you can use spicy vegetables from home such as garlic, scallions, ginger and onions, chop and mash them, add an appropriate amount of clean water, and spray the mixed solution all over the plant. This can effectively treat powdery mildew, red spider mites, aphids and other pests and diseases. You can also use chili water or soaked tobacco leaves, and both can play a role in prevention and control.

If the plant is especially seriously affected, for prevention and control you can use special pesticides such as propargite, dicofol, and huachongjing to spray the surface and underside of the leaves, and the effect is good.

2. Aphids

Aphids are one of the most common pests on plants. Aphids are commonly known as oil sweat or honey bugs. They have many species, reproduce quickly, and cause serious damage. They suck the sap of plants, making the plant decline and wither, and even die.

Prevention and control measures: you can place the potted plant at an angle under running tap water to rinse it. This not only removes the pests but also cleans the leaves. With the bugs gone and the leaves fresh, it kills two birds with one stone.

You can also mix laundry detergent, hand soap or dish soap with water at a 1:60 dilution and spray the whole plant, which can effectively prevent and control aphids, red spider mites, whiteflies and other pests.

3. Whiteflies:

Whiteflies, also called small white moths, are a very common pest and disease problem. They move fast and reproduce fast, which gives people a real headache.

Prevention and control method: you can use strong wind to blow them away. Whiteflies have short legs and short wings, so when the wind is strong it is hard for them to hold onto the plant. When there is a windy day, put the plant outdoors and let the natural wind blow them away.

You can also dilute laundry detergent with water and spray it, which is very effective.

4. Scale insects

Scale insects, also called armored scales, can attach themselves to the plant for life, harming leaves, branches and fruits, causing leaves to yellow, branch tips to wither, and the plant to weaken or die.

Prevention and control method: you can use high-proof liquor, mix it with water at a 1:20 ratio to make a solution, and spray it all over the plant, which can treat scale insects very well.

You can also use a toothpick or tweezers to remove and kill the insects, or put the plant under running tap water to rinse it. Either way can remove scale insects. It is very effective.

There are many other methods. For example, putting orange peel at the bottom of the flower pot can prevent ants and other small insects from crawling into the pot and causing pest damage. You can also mix edible vinegar and water at a 1:8 ratio and spray it on the plant, which can effectively prevent and control scale insects. It can also be applied to stems and leaves to prevent and control pests and diseases, and it can also make the leaves glossy green and shiny.

There are many more ways to prevent and control pests and diseases. It depends on us discovering them carefully in daily life. When plants get sick or pests appear, you do not necessarily have to use pesticides. Clever tricks for preventing pests and treating diseases are also very effective.
