Many flower enthusiasts like to keep a few orchids at home, but they can never seem to grow them well. Compared with other flowers, orchids really are a relatively difficult variety to grow, but although they are hard to grow, there are also many orchid-growing experts who get their own orchids to shoot up 15 flower spikes and burst out of the pot with new shoots. Let's learn together.
If you want to grow orchids well, you first have to know their growth habits. Orchids originally grew in mountain forests, where the sunlight cannot shine all the time, where there is the nourishment of rain and dew, fresh natural air, shade from trees, and dappled scattered light through the forest. So we cannot just place them directly on a sunny balcony, otherwise long periods of light exposure can easily cause the orchids to die.
Orchids sometimes tend to develop strange diseases, and at times like this you might as well sprinkle a layer of plant ash on the potting soil. Plant ash is a slightly alkaline flower fertilizer; it can ease the acidity of the potting soil and also has a certain sterilizing effect. Generally, when growing orchids you can spread a thin layer of plant ash on the surface of the potting soil, which can keep the orchid leaves green, the seedlings strong, and also reduce anthracnose in orchids. There is probably no need for me to explain how to obtain plant ash, right? Just burn something and you will have it.
The watering technique for orchids is also very key. Regarding watering orchids, there is a gardening saying: "Dew is best, spring water is good, rain and snow water are fine, and river or pond water comes next." To put it plainly, if you can water with rainwater or dew, that is the best. Of course, this is rather difficult to collect. If you use tap water for watering, it is best to store it for 1 day to let the chlorine evaporate before using it, or put 1 vitamin C tablet in a basin of tap water, which can eliminate the chlorine in a short time.
