Most succulents have a special color-changing skill, and whenever they change color, they look very beautiful and lovely. This is also the main reason people love succulents; some succulents are like magicians, one color today, and a few days later they turn another color. Especially when several kinds of succulents are planted together, the colors they change into are truly stunning.

There are many kinds of succulents, and many reasons for the color change, but for most succulents the main factors are temperature and light. If both of these are satisfied, the color-changing effect is very striking. You can experiment: especially in spring and autumn, the seasons with a big temperature difference between day and night, put the succulents outside at night and in the sun during the day, and within a few days they will turn red. The bigger the temperature difference, the deeper the color change. But the lowest temperature should not go below 5°C. The reason a big temperature difference makes the color change fast is that chlorophyll is not tolerant of low temperatures; when the temperature drops, the chlorophyll in the leaves becomes less and less, and then new anthocyanins are synthesized to resist the cold weather and enhance the plant's cold resistance. This is a kind of self-protection ability.

If you keep succulents indoors for a long time, where the temperature difference between day and night is basically the same, their color change will be very slow. They may even stay green all year round and never turn red at all. You can try taking the succulents outside at night, even just to a small windowsill, and putting them in a warmer environment or in the sun during the day. For these lovely succulents, that is already enough in terms of space and environment.

The season for succulents to change color is spring and autumn. Although summer has high temperatures and plenty of sunlight, summer is exactly the season when succulents go dormant; even if the temperature difference is big, the color change of the succulents will not be too great. When the temperature drops in late autumn, leave the succulents outdoors for a period of time, as long as they will not get frostbitten, let them breathe plenty of fresh air and receive the daytime sunlight; at night, if the temperature drops suddenly, the leaves will change color more easily. They will become even more beautiful. Of course, when the temperature is too low, do not try it.
