For flower lovers who like flowering plants, no matter what variety of flower they grow, a bursting pot is always the ultimate goal.

But our roses, when grown in pots, are often rather difficult to bring to a bursting pot. Even for roses planted in the ground, wanting them to bloom so fully is relatively rare.

So does that mean roses cannot burst into a pot full of blooms?

Of course not. As long as they are cared for properly, roses can absolutely burst into a pot full of blooms! Just look at the potted rose above, it did it.

So what should be done to make roses burst into a pot full of blooms?

Actually, it is simple to describe but quite troublesome to do. This rose bursting-pot technique has been shown by flower lovers in Lanyao's reader group, and it is "training".

The training mentioned here is not the training of climbing roses, but I think the inspiration probably also comes from the training of climbing roses.

Generally, after roses are pruned during the growing season, the top two buds will sprout, while the buds below may not necessarily sprout. If fewer new buds sprout, there will be fewer flowering branches, and naturally fewer flowers.

But if diagonal pulling and training can be used, it can promote the backflow of nutrients and encourage the buds near the lower part to sprout as well. In this way, when there are more new branches, there will naturally be more branches that can bloom. And it will easily burst into a pot full of blooms.

For shrub roses, the first "training" can be done after winter pruning, and after the first flush of flowers in spring is pruned, a second training can be done. In this way, the plant shape will grow fuller.

Of course, besides proper "training", fertilizer and water management is essential.

If fertilizer and water are not sufficient, even if many branches grow, they will not burst into a pot full of blooms; they will only be blind branches.

So we must first lay a solid foundation, and then use small techniques to improve the overall ornamental appearance of the potted plant.

There is no once-and-for-all method. Promoting more branching is only a necessary condition for a bursting pot, but sufficient fertilizer and water is the prerequisite.

If you want your roses to burst into a pot full of blooms, then hurry up and give it a try! (Thanks to reader and flower lover Yueying for providing the pruning and training photos.) Welcome to follow Lanyao'sWeChat public account: Lanyao Garden (ilanyao)
