Spring care methods and precautions for hydrangeas
Although summer has already arrived now, and hydrangeas are currently in their glorious blooming period, how to make them bloom well right now makes spring care very important. If you don't know how to manage them and have missed this year's spring, you can still learn it and save it for next year.1. Pruning
In spring, when all things come back to life, you should first prune the hydrangea appropriately, cutting off dead branches and weak branches. This serves to tidy up the plant's shape and also encourages new branches to sprout.
2. Repotting
In spring, hydrangeas are in the period of breaking dormancy (except in the warm south, because most areas there do not go dormant). After a winter of quiet, when the hydrangea is ready to burst forth, give it a pot one size larger or change the soil in the original pot. Loose, breathable new soil will help the hydrangea grow better. When repotting, prune the plant's root system, cutting away rotten roots.
3. Watering
After repotting, water thoroughly, place in a shaded spot for about ten days, then move outdoors for normal care. For routine watering, do not water too frequently; just keep the soil moist. Too much water easily causes root rot, while too little water easily causes drying, withering and wilting.
4. Fertilizing
Hydrangeas are flowers that love fertilizer, so if you want to grow them well, fertilizing is of course essential. Fertilizing can be done 2 to 3 weeks after changing the potting soil, once the root system has recovered and the plant has settled in. For routine feeding, use organic fertilizer mainly based on nitrogen fertilizer; when flower buds are forming, switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Remember to apply light fertilizer frequently.
5. Light
Hydrangeas are short-day flowers, so in spring it is enough to place them in a semi-shaded spot for care; when the sunlight is strong, avoid direct sunlight.
