How to sow wax begonia seeds? Detailed sowing methods and steps

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
To sow wax begonia, choose a flower pot that has good air and water permeability and is slightly shallow, along with loose, nutrient-rich soil, and choose April or May as the sowing time. When sowing, first put the coarser soil in the lower part of the container, then mix the seeds with finer soil and scatter it on the surface of the potting soil, and finally cover it with a layer of plastic film.

1. Choose a container

For wax begonia, you should choose a flower pot that has good air and water permeability and is slightly shallow. After choosing it, it must also be cleaned and disinfected before it can be used. In addition, before sowing, prop up the drainage hole at the bottom of the container with a tile, so that water can drain smoothly when we water.

2. Choose a substrate

The principle for choosing this is fairly fixed, generally loose and nutrient-rich. We can use a mixture of leaf mold and garden soil. However, after choosing the substrate, it cannot be used immediately; we still have to put it under the sun to disinfect it, which helps the seeds germinate. In addition, we should also use a sieve or similar item to roughly separate them into coarse and fine parts.

3. Time selection

Under normal circumstances, the suitable sowing time is from April to May.

4. Formal sowing

First, put the coarser substrate in the lower part of the container, and put the finer one in the upper part. Generally speaking, the soil should not be filled too full; it is enough for the soil surface to be about 2 cm below the rim of the pot. Then, mix the seeds with the finer substrate and scatter it on the surface of the potting soil; there is no need to continue covering it with soil. Next, keep the soil moist; you can use thin glass or plastic film to retain moisture. Then, keep the temperature at 15 to 22°C. After about a week, the seeds can sprout.
