How to grow fairy primrose (Primula malacoides) seeds? A detailed guide to the planting method
1. Choosing a container
For fairy primrose, a relatively shallow pot with good drainage is suitable for planting.
2. Choosing seeds
For sowing, choose healthy, plump seeds. In addition, one thing to note is that fairy primrose seeds have a relatively short lifespan, so they need to be sown immediately after harvest. If you are not sowing them right away, you can dry them indoors, seal them up, and store them in the refrigerator.
3. Preparing the soil
Mix leaf mold, peat soil, barnyard manure soil, and sand evenly in a 3:1:1:1 ratio as the growing medium. You can also add an appropriate amount of fertilizer. Doing so not only helps the seeds germinate, but also benefits the plant's later growth and development.
4. Choosing the time
Generally, choose July or August for sowing.
5. Sowing and later management
Put the prepared soil into the container; it does not need to be filled too full, leaving a distance of one or two cm from the rim of the pot. Then sow the seeds into the soil. Because its seeds are very small, there is no need to cover them with another layer of soil.
Next comes the control of various conditions. First is temperature: keeping it at around 15 to 20°C is more favorable for germination. Then there is humidity: sufficient moisture is very favorable for sprouting. To achieve this, you can cover the top of the container with a piece of glass or a plastic film to retain moisture.
Ensure the conditions are suitable, and after waiting about one or two weeks, it will sprout. When the seedlings have grown about five true leaves, they can be planted out in their final position.
