How to grow bamboo? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions
1. Soil
Use loose, fertile sandy soil, adjusted to neutral or acidic. Do not use soil that is too heavy or alkaline. You can mix farmland soil with humus and add some fine sand to increase its air permeability.
2. Watering
Bamboo is especially afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, in daily care, do not water too much. In summer, you can water once a day. In winter, watering must be strictly controlled to avoid frost damage. In addition, newly transplanted plants need one thorough watering, after which they enter normal care.
3. Fertilizing
When first planting or transplanting, you can mix some fertilizer into the soil at the same time as a base fertilizer. After it enters normal growth, topdressing is needed, using urea at a concentration of 0.5 percent, applied together with watering.
4. Light
It has a need for light, but it must not be too intense. In summer, shading is essential. In winter, place it in a sunny and wind-sheltered spot.
5. Precautions
(1) Some pests and diseases often trouble the plant, such as "aphids", "leaf blight" and so on. After discovering disease, promptly cut off diseased branches and leaves and spray pesticide; when pests appear, also spray insecticide as soon as possible.
(2) In winter, it needs to be kept in a warm place, or covered with plastic film to keep it warm.
(3) In summer, when evaporation is especially high, spray a little water on the leaves frequently.
