Soil: Growing gardenias requires loose, well-aerated, slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5-6. Light: It needs plenty of light; except in midsummer, it can be grown directly in sunlight. Water: Keep the potting soil moist except in winter; in summer, take measures to raise the air humidity. Temperature: Normally 20-28°C, and 5-12°C in winter.

1. Soil

Growing gardenias requires loose, well-aerated, slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5-6. You can use leaf mold and peat soil mixed with ordinary garden soil as its growing medium.

2. Light

Plenty of sunlight is essential for gardenia growth. If it cannot get light for a long time, its flowering branches will be very thin and weak, and it will also be difficult for it to bloom. Apart from needing appropriate shading in summer, it is fine to place it directly in sunlight during the other seasons.

3. Water

Gardenias prefer relatively moist growing conditions, so keep the potting soil moist except in winter. When the air is relatively dry in summer, use a spray bottle to spray some water on its leaves, or place a basin of clean water next to its flowerpot to increase the air humidity.

4. Temperature

Gardenias are suited to growing in an environment of 20-28°C. When the temperature is too high in summer, measures must be taken to cool it down. In winter, maintain 5-12°C; it must not be too low, otherwise it will freeze, and it must not be too high, otherwise it will break its dormancy.

5. Precautions

1. Acidic soil. When watering normally, you can add one or two drops of vinegar to the water. This can lower the pH of the soil, thereby helping the gardenia grow better.

2. Fertilize at the right time. Gardenias quite like fertilizer, so fertilize them during their growing period, applying light fertilizer frequently. Before flowering, apply some phosphorus fertilizer to help them bloom better.
