What to Do When a Jade Plant (Portulacaria afra) Has Root Rot? Here's the Correct Way to Handle It
1. Check
First, we need to check the condition of the plant's root rot, see whether the situation is serious, whether the scope of the rot is too large, and whether it can continue to survive. If it can, then it can be saved; if not, the only option is to give up on it.
2. Trim the roots
At this point, we need to cut off the rotted roots, and the rotted branches and leaves must be cut off as well. When pruning, note that you must trim it clean, and you can appropriately extend the cut a little into the healthy branches and leaves, so that what remains is certain to be unrotted stems.
3. Repot
After pruning, we need to check whether the pot suits it. When the size of the plant and the size of the pot do not match, we should repot it. Small plants go with small pots, large plants with large pots. Never put too small a seedling in too large a pot, otherwise water drains away very slowly, and this will cause root rot again.
4. Watering
After repotting it, what we need to do is control watering. Do not give it too much water, and the timing must also be controlled well. If it is autumn or winter, watering at noon is workable, but if it is spring or summer, it can only be done in the morning and evening.
5. Ventilation
Ventilation is essential. Especially after it has rotted, we must ensure its ventilation conditions, so that it can recover quickly and also grow better. If it is placed in an environment with poor ventilation, it will be very difficult for it to grow well.
