Reasons for Yellowing Lemon Leaves and How to Fix Them
1. Supplement iron or nitrogen
(1) Specific cause: A deficiency of either of these two elements can cause leaves to turn yellow, but the affected parts differ. If iron is deficient, the leaf flesh turns yellow; if nitrogen is deficient, the leaf veins turn yellow. Therefore, you can determine which element to supplement based on the different symptoms.
(2) Solution: Observe which part of the leaf is yellowing and supplement the corresponding element accordingly.
2. Supplement fertilizer
(1) Specific cause: This situation occurs more often during flowering. At this time the plant's nutrient needs are already high, and if you do not pay attention to supplementing them, the leaves are very likely to turn yellow.
(2) Solution: Spray some fertilizer, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution. It contains not only basic elements like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but also some trace elements. Spray it onto the leaves once every half month.
3. Deal with root rot
(1) Specific cause: If the roots rot, the leaves may also turn yellow. The most likely causes of root rot are too much water accumulation or fertilizer that is too concentrated.
(2) Solution: Scrape away the rotten parts and a small portion of the surrounding tissue with a knife, and apply some thiophanate. Wait until the cut has completely healed, then cover it with soil. After that, be careful not to water too much and not to apply fertilizer that is too concentrated.
4. Prevent and control pests
(1) Specific cause: After pests appear, they may also harm the leaves and cause them to turn yellow.
(2) Solution: If there are few, you can remove the pests by hand. If there are many, spray the appropriate pesticide.
