Reasons for Yellowing Leaves on the Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) and How to Fix It
1. Increase watering
Cause: The Queen of the Night is a flowering plant that prefers a moist environment. If it has not been watered for a long time or has been given too little water, the plant may become dehydrated, which then causes the leaves to turn yellow.
Solution: Increase the frequency of watering. But be careful not to pour too much water each time, so that water does not accumulate in the soil and damage its root system.
2. Raise the temperature
Cause: The Queen of the Night is very afraid of freezing. Once it suffers cold damage in winter, the whole plant will begin to wilt and go soft, and the leaves will also show signs of yellowing and drying up.
Solution: Move the Queen of the Night to a warm environment, then find its frostbitten stems and leaves and cut them all off. Do not feel reluctant when cutting, because leaving these branches and leaves on the plant not only serves no purpose but also consumes a large amount of nutrients.
3. Eliminate pests and diseases
Cause: After being infected by some pests or diseases, the leaves of the Queen of the Night may also turn yellow.
Solution: After discovering pests or diseases, first determine the type of problem, then take the corresponding pest-control and spraying measures for treatment accordingly.
4. Provide shade at the right time
Cause: When the sunlight is too strong, the Queen of the Night must not be placed directly in the sun to bake, otherwise its leaves will be scorched and turn yellow.
Solution: Provide shade when the sunlight is too strong. If it has already been scorched, then remove its yellowed leaves, and move it indoors to a place where it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight and care for it slowly.
