Text by Lin Pei-chun, upstream and downstream reporter
Silkworm babies are no longer only white in appearance. After seven years of effort, the Miaoli District Agricultural Improvement Station of the Council of Agriculture (hereinafter referred to as the "Miaoli DAIS") has bred a new silkworm variety called "Black Whirlwind." It not only has unique black markings, but is also stronger than the previous white silkworms and more suitable for the public to raise. The Miaoli DAIS stated that it hopes that through the unique "Black Whirlwind," it can reignite a public craze for raising silkworms and guide sericulture farmers toward tourism development.
