Echeveria 'Takasago no Okina' Succulent Variety Introduction

Echeveria 'Takasago no Okina' is a succulent in the Crassulaceae family, Echeveria genus. It is characterized by broad leaves with large wavy curled edges, and its color shifts unpredictably from blue-purple to orange-red depending on the light, making it an Echeveria variety with a distinctive charm. It is a hybrid, not a cultivated variety. It was first bred in Japan.
Echeveria 'Takasago no Okina'
Echeveria 'Takasago no Okina' has a thick stem that gradually elongates as it grows. The leaves are densely arranged in a rosette, and the plant can reach over 30cm in diameter. The leaves are round with large wavy crinkled edges. The leaf color ranges from jade green to reddish brown, with new leaves lighter and older leaves darker. Under strong light and large day-night temperature differences or during low-temperature periods in winter, the leaves turn deep red; under weak light, the leaves turn light green. The leaf edges often show pink. The leaf surface is covered with a slight white powder, and the old leaves become smooth after the powder wears off. It blooms in summer, with cymes reaching over 30cm in length, bearing orange bell-shaped flowers.

It loves sunlight. Echeveria 'Takasago no Okina' needs sufficient sunlight for the leaf color to be vivid and the plant shape to be more compact and attractive; too little sunlight results in pale leaf color and loosely arranged leaves. During hot summers, pay attention to ventilation and shading to avoid direct strong sunlight.

Care and maintenance:
Watering: Do not water until dry; when watering, water thoroughly; better dry than wet. Do not water in winter or on rainy days. When the air is dry, mist the leaf surface.
Fertilizing: Generally no fertilizing is needed; just place a small amount of organic fertilizer at the bottom of the pot each year when repotting.
Other: Echeveria 'Takasago no Okina' is a large plant, and depending on its growth state it should be repotted once every 1-2 years; the pot diameter can be 1-2 cun larger than the plant diameter, which promotes plant growth.
