Introduction
Green plants and potted plants are essential decorative items for home life; they beautify the room and also delight the mood and nurture the character. Keeping some flowers and plants at home has many benefits. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary · Issue 963" takes you to know plants with very long flowering periods.
Beautiful and easy to grow, it can survive just thrown into soil, blooming continuously all year round. An ornamental plant like this is loved by everyone. The flower introduced today is called "nasturtium" (Tropaeolum majus), native to Peru, Brazil and other places in South America. It has been introduced and cultivated in both southern and northern China. Both its flowers and leaves are beautiful, and it is a very popular new type of indoor flowering plant.
Nasturtium is a perennial semi-trailing or prostrate plant with climbing ability. Its leaves are very similar to lotus leaves, almost identical (just smaller), so it is called "dry-land golden lotus, terrestrial lotus" and so on; the flowers come in single and double forms, with rich colors including purplish red, orange-red, creamy yellow and others. It offers both foliage and flowers to admire, and is deeply loved by flower enthusiasts.
The flowering period of nasturtium is very long. Under natural conditions, it can keep blooming for as long as half a year, but in China it is mostly grown as an indoor potted plant. With suitable temperature, it can bloom continuously through all four seasons, earning the title "blooming machine", with an extremely long ornamental period; moreover, the flowers have a rich fragrance. When they bloom, the whole room is filled with scent, pleasing to the eye and refreshing to the heart.
Nasturtium has strong vitality and is generally propagated by sowing, which can be done in spring, summer, autumn and winter, with spring being best. Throw the seeds into moist potting soil without covering them with soil, and place them in a cool environment. In about 10 days they will take root and sprout, and in 80 days they will bloom. Care is super simple, even easier to grow than pothos and spider plant, and beginners can grow it well too.
Nasturtium will climb walls. If there is enough space at home, you can use a support to train it into a flower wall, flower column, arch and so on, and the decorative effect of flowers covering the branches is excellent; if you do not want it to climb, you can promptly pinch off the tips during the growing period to let it grow into a "ball shape" (as in Figure 2), which is also uniquely charming. It is a rare fine potted plant and well worth getting.
