In a 2015 report, the incidence of COPD in China had already risen to 12%, and it was also reported that the four major diseases threatening human health listed by the World Health Organization are chronic respiratory diseases, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. And the COPD spectrum can be said to be an important branch of chronic respiratory diseases. But people still do not know much about COPD, and there is a need for publicity and popularization.

COPD

COPD is actually chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, so it can be said to be part of the COPD spectrum; conditions such as chronic bronchitis and pneumonia can all be said to be one of the branches of COPD. And COPD is a continuously developing, progressive, and irreversible airway obstructive disease. In fact, it means that some inflammation in the lungs persists, causing the respiratory tract to undergo reactions such as spasm and closure, leading to pathologies such as ventilatory dysfunction and respiratory muscle fatigue.

Over the long term, this development makes the respiratory tract more and more blocked and suffocating, and causes more and more wheezing, and once airway obstruction is formed, it will no longer reverse. In recent years, diseases in the COPD spectrum have continuously increased, which is in fact closely related to the straight-line rise in emissions such as industrial waste gas and automobile exhaust. Other factors include allergens, cooking oil fumes, indoor decoration pollution, factory dust, particulate matter, and so on. If a person has a susceptible constitution, they are more likely to become infected and develop the disease, and are also prone to rapid progression and deterioration.

COPD, indirect and direct smoking

Indirect or direct smoking is also a major trigger for the development of lung diseases such as COPD. Statistics show that the greater the amount smoked and the longer the smoking history, the greater the likelihood of developing COPD. Compared with non-smokers, smokers are 10 times more likely to develop chronic bronchitis. If a smoker smokes 40 or more cigarettes per day, the probability of developing chronic bronchitis can be as high as 75.3%. In terms of COPD mortality, the COPD mortality rate of smoking patients compared with that of non-smoking COPD patients also shows a tendency to rise in a nearly straight line.
