Spring fills the garden with intoxicating beauty, the spring garden scene as lovely as a painting

It's the season of spring warmth and blooming flowers again. Recently I've been busy with my 'big family' - the flowers and plants. After years of tending, the terrace garden has given me its greatest reward: a garden full of flowers blooming in competition.

Growing flowers and plants is undoubtedly one of the great joys of my daily life, occupying a considerable part of my free time. Shaping the garden into the look I love, then making myself a cup of coffee, holding a favorite book, and sitting among my flowers - I never tire of it all day long.

After sharing two photos of my homemade coffee, I realized I'd strayed a bit off topic. Today I'm mainly here to show off my flowers and plants, though the latte art on these two cups of coffee does suit the occasion!

The first batch of flowers to bloom in spring came in early March: orchids, azaleas, tulips, lupines, marguerites and camellias. At this time, the other flowers were still in the leafing-out or vine-climbing stage.

The camellia took a full half year from bud to full bloom, so growing flowers is quite a test of one's patience!

The one thing the garden can't do without is the rose. I especially love growing roses, mainly because they bloom every month and never stop throughout the year. In the Shanghai area, they even bloom in December, so as long as they're in the garden, it's full of life. That's why I grow relatively many rose varieties, including climbing roses, Red Dragon, Pink Dragon, miniature roses and more.

Of course, the garden naturally can't lack the king of flowers - the peony. From bud to full bloom, it needs careful tending, especially when overwintering in sub-zero temperatures, when you must wrap it up entirely, or it will easily freeze.

Climbing plants are a great element for decorating the garden. Besides roses and climbing roses, I also chose different varieties of clematis. This plant is very suitable for open-air growing in the Shanghai area, and it doesn't fear freezing in winter either. It starts blooming in April, with dense flowers in spring, and can bloom continuously into summer and autumn.

Next, another round of 'succulents'. These are more suited to indoor growing. Most succulents don't like water, so succulents could be called the lazy person's flowers. Of course, there are also varieties that don't fear water, and plenty of 'fat plants' that grow like crazy when they get water.

The autumn flowers I got last year, chrysanthemums and kalanchoes, actually bloomed their first flowers in early May this year, so I'm honestly confused about when their flowering periods really are!

This year I also cultivated a new variety - nasturtium. At the beginning of the year I sowed into the soil nasturtium seeds I'd brought back from the Xining area last year. They sprouted in early March and bloomed their first flower in early May. The little orange-yellow flowers are quite striking.

So whenever I see these flowers and plants growing so vigorously, I always have the illusion that I have a talent for being a flower farmer. In truth, I'm just a 'baby' who loves life and loves to potter about!
