Can expired beer be used to water flowers? Use it and the plant leaves will be bright and green

Summer is here, and it is once again the season for enjoying beer freely, but sometimes we may come across some leftover overnight beer or beer that was forgotten in a corner and went past its expiration date. Fellow flower growers must have more or less heard that the beer commonly seen in our daily lives is a good material for growing flowers, and after proper treatment, it greatly benefits the growth of flowering plants, with remarkable results.
However, although beer is a good nutrient for flowers, its method of use and the amount used require great care. If you do not know the tricks and blindly use beer to water flowers, it will instead cause varying degrees of damage to the flower's root system, branches, leaves and other parts.
So exactly how should beer, this substance, be used correctly to grow flowers? Next, let the editor explain it to everyone in detail.
Fertilizing plants
Beer contains a large amount of nutrients such as protein, sugar, amino acids and nitrates, which can be said to be quite beneficial to the growth of flowering plants, so it can be used as fertilizer.
Mix beer and clean water evenly at a ratio of 1:10, then pour it onto the soil surface of the flowering plant. When applying it, besides paying attention to the concentration of the beer, you should also pay attention to the frequency of application. Basically, do not use it more than twice a month. It can play a role in supplementing nutrients and promoting plant growth.
Cleaning leaves
If the flowers at home have accumulated too much dust, you can choose to dip a cotton swab in beer solution to wipe them. This is especially effective for foliage plants. Using beer not only has a cleaning effect, but can also make the leaves brighter, more glossy and emerald green.
Before wiping, it is best to dilute the beer with two to three times the amount of clean water, then use a cotton swab or soft cloth dipped in a small amount of beer solution to gently wipe along the veins of the leaf. Do not use too much force, so as not to bruise the leaf's tissue cells.
Extending the flowering period
This method is suitable for hydroponic plants during their flowering period and can extend the time their flowers stay open. It can also be used for cut flowers, extending their ornamental period and making them wither more slowly.
Pour a beer solution at a ratio of 1:10 into the container. In this way, it can provide the plant or cut flower with a nutrient-rich growing environment, delaying the withering of cut flowers or extending the blooming time of the flowers.
Increasing acidity
What is referred to here is the acidity of the soil. Since beer contains nitrates, mix beer and clean water evenly at a ratio of 1:3, then pour it onto the soil surface. It can effectively regulate the soil's pH, and is extremely beneficial to the growth of Gardenia, Rhododendron, Camellia and other plants that prefer acidic soil.
Killing pests
What many people may not know is that beer is very effective at preventing pest damage, especially scale insects. Beer can form a natural sealing film on the surface of scale insects' bodies, making it difficult for them to breathe and causing them to die.
Mix beer and clean water evenly at a ratio of 1:6, then spray it on the parts with more serious pest damage. It can kill scale insects and prevent pest damage. After using it continuously for three days, basically all the scale insects will be successfully eliminated.
When using beer to water flowers, you need additionallyto notethe following two points:
First, do not use chilled beer. It is best to use beer at room temperature to water flowers, otherwise a solution with too low a temperature will cause the cells in the plant's root area to shrink sharply, and then rot and die.
Second, be careful not to pour the sediment in the beer into the flower pot as well, because these sediment substances are mostly residues of some nutrients that failed to decompose successfully. After they enter the soil, they will decompose and ferment, and the heat released can easily burn the plant's root system, causing irreversible consequences.
