In May, as the weather gets hotter and hotter, roses are at their peak growth and blooming period. Care at this time is very important. Today Hua'er tells everyone how flower farmers care for roses well in summer, making every pot burst at the seams with flowers covering the branches!

1. Water supply

In hot weather, water evaporates very quickly. Roses are in their season of lush branches and leaves and blooming, so their water demand is also increasing. In this kind of weather, as soon as you see the potting soil turn pale, water immediately. Since most of the water we use is tap water, do not water directly with it. First collect it in a basin and let it sit for a day or two, until the chlorine in the water has mostly dissipated, then use it.

High temperatures mean high humidity is very likely, which is also a frequent period for root rot in roses. So it is best to move the roses to a ventilated spot. This can effectively prevent waterlogging from causing root rot, and it is also unfavorable for pests and diseases to attack.

2. Fertilizer supply

If you want roses to bloom well and bloom abundantly, fertilizer is essential. During the growth period, you can apply more nitrogen fertilizer, and it is best to apply some organic fertilizer and nutrient solution, such as fermented soybean fertilizer rich in nitrogen, orange peel fertilizer, etc. During the flowering period, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and you can also spray a diluted phosphorus and potassium solution on the leaves, which helps blooming and extends the flowering period. You can judge by the flower buds which fertilizer should be applied.

3. Light

In May, the sun is still quite scorching. Although roses need to be given enough light, you still need to pay attention to shading, especially from the midday sun, which can easily scorch the leaves, flower buds, and so on.

4. Pruning

For roses in the flowering period, pay great attention to pruning to reduce excessive consumption of nutrients. Besides cutting off old branches, weak branches, inner branches, and so on, you should also cut off those relatively thin and small branches as well. Such flowering branches mostly will not form flower buds, or else they will only bloom small flowers. It would be better to transfer the nutrients to the large branches so they can bloom larger and more vivid flowers.

5. Treating pests and diseases

May is also a peak period for diseases and pests. Usually, you can spray a diluted neutral laundry detergent solution onto the branches and leaves, which can play a preventive role. If you find that the plant has pests or diseases, you can take the potted plant to a sink and wash it with clean water.
