Many gardening friends always feel there are too many flowers they want to grow and too many beautiful flowers out there, yet at home there are not enough flower pots, not enough soil, and not enough fertilizer. Although chemical fertilizers are simple to use and their nutrients act fast, they easily make the soil compact and their effect is relatively short-lived. So how can home gardeners make their own green fertilizer?

1. Household kitchen waste and everyday items from the kitchen and around the home can be turned into green organic fertilizer. For example, vegetable leaves and fruit peels, which are especially plentiful in daily life, can be put into an empty flower pot, with soil on the bottom layer and soil on the top layer, and the peels and leaves in the middle. It is best to seal it with plastic sheeting and place it in a relatively warm spot so they ferment fully. After two or three months, a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer is ready. When growing flowers, it can be used as a base fertilizer or mixed into the potting soil. The effect is good, the soil does not compact, and the fertility is ample.

2. Chinese herbal medicine residue. It contains the nutritional components of various plants. Used to make compost, it is loose and airy, and it can also supplement the various nutrients needed for growing flowers, making the soil very fertile.

3. Making nitrogen fertilizer. You can put moldy soybeans, peanuts, and the like from home into a bucket, add water, and ferment for several months. This is an organic fertilizer mainly based on nitrogen. Its effect on flowers is fantastic, but it stinks terribly. You can add some orange peel to ease the smell. You can also compost the cakes left after oil pressing, such as soybean cake and rapeseed cake. This is the cake fertilizer commonly used by expert gardeners. It is a fertilizer high in nitrogen and potassium and is very helpful for plant nutrition during the growing season.

4. Making phosphorus fertilizer. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can promote plant flowering. You can seal and ferment fishy water, bones, and the like from home. With a high phosphorus content, it can promote plant flowering and bud formation.

5. Eggshell flower fertilizer. Wash the egg white from inside the eggshells, dry them in the sun, crush them, then grind them into powder in a mortar. After that, mix them into the soil. If the eggshells are not crushed, they can easily scratch the plant roots. You can also put the eggshells into a plastic bottle and leave them in the sun to ferment. Once the water changes color, it can be diluted with water to water the flowers.

6. Beer is also a good flower fertilizer

Beer works well for growing flowers because beer contains a large amount of carbon dioxide, and carbon dioxide is an indispensable substance for the metabolism of various plants and flowers. Beer also contains nutrients such as sugar, protein, amino acids, and phosphate, which are beneficial to flower growth. Leftover beer also needs to be fermented. After leaving it for a few days, diluting it with water to water the roots or wipe the leaves is very good.

When using homemade flower fertilizer at home, grasp the principle of "light fertilizer, diluted application", dilute it appropriately, apply it in the right amount, and never apply it in excess. When composting fertilizer, you must wait until the fertilizer liquid soaked out from inside has turned black and is fully decomposed before pouring it out and mixing it with water (about 9 parts water to 1 part fertilizer liquid) for application. Raw fertilizer must not be used. Adding some orange peel when composting fertilizer can prevent a foul smell and also leave a faint fresh fragrance.

Once the flowers have taken in these fertilizers, the soil does not compact, it is loose and airy, and they grow like crazy as if on a stimulant, flowering unstoppably.
