The Supine Breathing Exercise Is Most Suitable for Emphysema Patients

In severe stages of emphysema, cor pulmonale, chronic bronchitis and similar conditions, patients may need bed rest and recuperation, and many fitness activities and exercises that help with recovery can only be envied from afar. The supine breathing exercise, however, fills this gap in rehabilitation for these conditions, and research has already shown that the supine breathing exercise plays a major role in the rehabilitation and improvement of chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Breathing Exercise
Medication relieves symptoms of emphysema, chronic bronchitis, cor pulmonale and other diseases, while breathing exercises can directly improve lung function. In terms of method, the supine breathing exercise is also easy to master. First, start from a supine position: clench both fists and flex and extend at the elbow joints 5 to 10 times, then breathe deeply and calmly 5 to 10 times. Next, alternately stretch both arms forward and upward, breathe naturally 5 to 10 times, and alternately flex and extend both legs at the knee joints 5 to 10 times.
Then bend both knees, raise and spread both arms outward, while taking 5 to 10 deep breaths. Next, for whistling-style breathing, first breathe in deeply through the nose, then purse the lips into a whistling shape and breathe out forcefully; do this 5 to 10 times as well. For abdominal breathing practice, the supine position is essential: bend both knees, place each hand on the chest and abdomen respectively, bulge the abdomen on inhalation and contract it on exhalation, also doing this 5 to 10 times.
Supine Breathing Exercise
Choosing the supine position for breathing exercises is aimed at patients with more severe conditions such as emphysema and bronchitis, though it can also be done sitting or standing. It is also important to progress gradually, from slow to fast and from few to many; generally do 2 to 3 rounds per day, or you can start with just one round, mainly depending on your physical condition and doing what you can manage.
